Dario G is a dance and trance music project by British DJ and producer Paul Spencer. The name goes back to Dario Gradi, the manager of the Crewe Alexandra football club .
Career
In 1996 Dario G was founded as a project as a trio of the three DJs Paul and Stephan Spencer and Scott Rosser, Paul and Stephan are not related, in Crewe , England . One year after their founding, they released their debut single called Sunchyme and reached high chart positions across Europe, including number 2 in the UK single charts . Sunchyme contains samples from the song Life in a Northern Town by The Dream Academy from 1985. The subsequent single Carnaval de Paris was able to build on the successes, the song was also selected by ZDF as an accompaniment to the 1998 World Cup in France. The first album Sunmachine and the third single of the same name, a cover version of David Bowie's Memory of a Free Festival , followed in 1998. In early 2000, the fourth single Voices was finally released after the song was included in the soundtrack of the film The Beach .
After the departure of Stephan Spencer, 1999, the remaining Scott studied Rosser and Paul Spencer for a singer and eventually found in Manchester living Norwegian Ingfrid Straumstøyl. Together with her the second album In Full Color was created . The first single Dream to Me , a cover of the song Dreams der Cranberries , (based on Ennio Morricone's Once Upon a Time in the West ), was released in early 2001 and reached number 9 in the British and German singles charts. This was followed by the release of the album and the second single Say What's on Your Mind in the same year.
For the soccer World Cup 2002 a remix of the song Carnaval de Paris was released as Carnaval 2002 , also in this year the song Heaven Is Closer , a cover version of the song (Feels Like) Heaven by Fiction Factory . With both songs the trio managed to get back into the official single charts.
After Rosser left that same year, the project took a longer break. In 2006 Paul Spencer tried again under the same pseudonym Dario G to use a World Cup to publish a single. Ring of Fire , a cover of the Johnny Cash classic of the same name , was denied chart success, which made the future of the music project uncertain.
In 2010, just in time for the World Cup, the song Game On was released in collaboration with the American rapper Pitbull .
