Marcel Bezençon Prize
The Marcel Bezençon Prize is named after Marcel Bezençon , the inventor of the Eurovision Song Contest . It was initiated by Christer Björkman , then head of the Swedish delegation, and Richard Herrey , who won the Eurovision Song Contest for Sweden in 1984 in Luxembourg with his brothers and was first awarded at the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 in Tallinn .
The award has been divided into three categories since 2004:
- Press Prize - awarded to the best song by the accredited journalists.
- Artist Prize - awarded by the commentators for the best artistic achievement.
- Composers Prize - is awarded by a jury of participating composers to the best and most original composition.
Before the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, the artist prize was not awarded by the commentators, but by former Eurovision Song Contest winners. This change came because it was difficult to get enough former winners to participate in the award each year and because there were not always former winners in the Eurovision Song Contest. On the other hand, the commentators follow the contest very closely every year and are therefore particularly well suited to choosing the best artist.
Since the Eurovision Song Contest 2004, the Composer Prize has replaced the Fan Prize , which was determined in 2002 in Tallinn and at the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 in Riga by members of the international Eurovision Fanclub OGAE in the style of Eurovision scoring.
In addition to the composer's prize, the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest also presented the Poplight Fan Prize . For this award, fans could vote for the best newcomer under 25 on the Swedish website Poplight.se.
Although the prizes are recognized by the EBU, they will not be presented in the final show itself, but until 2008 at the official aftershow party and since then shortly before the final in the backstage area.
The prizes are also awarded at the Swedish preliminary round Melodifestivalen .

In the tables, the award winners are highlighted in the medal colors gold , silver or bronze if they already took one of the first three places in the main competition.
