Dami Im ( kor.  임다 미 , rev.  Im Dami ; born October 17, 1988 in South Korea ) is an Australian pop singer . She became known as the winner of the fifth season of The X Factor in 2013 . She represented Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm and with 511 points came second behind Jamala from Ukraine.

biography

At the age of nine, Dami Im came from South Korea to Queensland with her mother and siblings , the father later moved to Queensland . From early childhood she attended music lessons and learned mainly piano and violin. She has won several awards as a young pianist. She completed a music degree and then worked in Brisbane as a piano and music teacher.

In 2010 she released her own album for the first time to raise money for her church. Two more EPs followed before she applied for the casting show The X Factor in 2013 . She made it to the finals of the “Bootcamp” and would have been eliminated. As a replacement for a candidate who withdrew on her own initiative, she still came into the live shows.

Already with the first two songs from her appearances, she was able to enter the Australian charts and quickly became a popular favorite. Only Taylor Henderson was able to place six songs in the top 50 of the charts during the show. In the final on the last weekend in October, Dami Im relegated him to second place. With the subsequently presented winning song Alive , which was written by the successful songwriter / producer duo DNA Songs , it reached platinum status in a few days and climbed to the top of the charts. Also at number one was the album Dami Im with the show songs, which was released three weeks later and also went platinum.

On March 3, 2016, she was selected internally by the Australian TV broadcaster SBS to represent the country at its second ESC participation in Stockholm. Her contribution, Sound of Silence , was presented on March 11, 2016.

The Australian Eurovision Song Contest Fan Club has chosen the title Fighting for Love for the OGAE Song Contest 2017.
