Guy Sebastian
Guy Theodore Sebastian (born October 26, 1981 in Klang , Malaysia ) is an Australian pop singer .
Career
Guy Sebastian is of Malaysian- English descent. He was born in Malaysia, where he grew up until he was six, then his family moved to Melbourne , Victoria and four years later to Adelaide , South Australia . At the age of 14 he joined the youth choir of his church and performed with it as a solo singer nationally and internationally. After finishing school he worked as a singing teacher and sound engineer before participating in the first season of the casting show Australian Idol , the Australian edition of Pop Idol , in 2003 .
Sebastian emerged as the winner of the competition in November 2003 and was signed by BMG . His debut single Angels Brought Me Here , released shortly afterwards , immediately rose to number 1 on the Australian charts and became the best-selling single from Australian production. It also reached the top of the charts in New Zealand and was successful in several Asian countries. His debut album Just as I Am achieved the highest sales figures in the first week of sales that an album had reached in Australia by then and was ultimately awarded six times platinum for almost half a million copies sold.
At the end of 2003 he represented Australia at the only World Idol event to date and finished seventh out of eleven participants. The second single All I Need Is You reached number 1 in Australia in 2004 as did Out with My Baby , which was the forerunner for the second album. Beautiful Life was published in October 2004 and came in second. After these quick initial successes, which also had their downsides with numerous hostilities, Sebastian first had to overcome a crisis of meaning. After that, he was unable to achieve number one placements, but established himself at a high level over the years. His third album Closer to the Sun at the end of 2006 was followed a year later with The Memphis Album, a collection of cover versions of soul classics dating back to the 1960s. It reached double platinum.
Guy Sebastian also planned to move to the United States for his fifth album . A download EP was released there in May 2009. Due to internal turmoil at his US label, the original plans were abandoned. The single Like It Like That was released in Australia in August and became his fourth number-one single. The album of the same name will be released in Australia in October 2009.
From 2010 to 2012 Guy Sebastian was part of the jury for X-Factor Australia . After a two-year break, Sebastian returned in 2015 for the seventh season.
In 2012 he released his most successful single to date, Battle Scars , which he recorded together with rapper Lupe Fiasco . He returned the favor to the American in 2015 by participating in his piece Blur My Hands .
In 2015 he represented Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna . With the song Tonight Again he made it to number 5 with 196 points.
