Jordin Sparks
Jordin Brianna Sparks (born December 22, 1989 in Phoenix , Arizona ) is an American singer . In 2007 she won the sixth season of American Idol and is the only winner after Kelly Clarkson to have had success in Germany.
Life
Sparks is the only daughter of German-born Jodi Wiedmann and Afro-American Phillippi Sparks , a former football player who played in the NFL for the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys . She has a younger brother: Phillippi Sparks junior, called PJ. Until October 2014 she was in a relationship with singer Jason Derulo .
She sang the American national anthem at Super Bowl XLII and the 2009 NBA All-Star Game .
Sparks' first single in the US was This Is My Now . You could reach place 15 there. With her first worldwide single Tattoo , Sparks reached number 8 on the US charts and the top 40 in other countries. The second single No Air was even more successful together with Chris Brown , which made it to number three. In 2008, the pair sang the hit on American Idol's Top 8 Show. After the performance, she received platinum records for her songs Tattoo and No Air . One Step At The Time became the fourth single. Her debut album, Jordin Sparks , was also awarded a platinum record (over 1,000,000 sales).
The single No Air was also very successful internationally, especially in English-speaking countries. It reached number three in Great Britain and number one in Australia and New Zealand .
In 2009 her second album, Battlefield, was released . Before that, the single of the same name was released and was able to reach number ten and further top 40 positions in the USA. In contrast to the single, the album was a flop. To date, only 600,000 copies have been sold. The second single SOS (Let The Music Play) reached number 13 in the UK. In January 2010, the third single, Don't Let It Go To Your Head , was released, but it didn't make it into the charts.
In 2010, Sparks took on the role of Nina in the Broadway musical In the Heights for a few weeks . She played herself in a guest role with the band and their eponymous series Big Time Rush . She produced the song Count On You with them . In 2012 Sparks directed the film Sparkle with Whitney Houston . A soundtrack was also released for the film, which included new songs by Sparks.
In 2013 she played in Mister & Pete against the rest of the world ( The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete ) opposite Jennifer Hudson , Anthony Mackie and Jeffrey Wright .
Her third album should be released in early 2015 and is entitled Right Here, Right Now . The first single from it, It Ain't You, was released on December 16, 2014.
American Idol
On May 23, 2007, Sparks won the sixth season of the American Idol talent show. In the final, she prevailed against Blake Lewis .
