She Works Hard for the Money is a song by Donna Summer in the year 1983 . She wrote it with Michael Omartian . The piece was the title track for the album of the same name.

history

The song is about a woman who has to work very hard for her money, but is satisfied because she feels valued. The plot is based on a true story when Summer ran into a toilet woman who fell asleep at work and told her about her two other jobs.

The publication took place on May 27, 1983. The song became a hit and is one of Donna Summer's most famous pieces.

Music video

The plot of the music video is very similar to the song. At the beginning of the video, the protagonist dreams of being a ballet dancer , but later she is woken up by her alarm clock and goes to work (as a cleaner in a high-rise building , as a waitress in a pub and as a seamstress ). In doing so, she buys a newspaper. First the woman cleans a floor in the skyscraper, then after the work she lets the guests into a restaurant and takes orders. Donna Summer sings the song while sitting in the bar. Later the woman also sews clothes. After shopping, she arrives at home and also has to look after her two children (a boy and a girl). All scenes are repeated until the woman drops a plate on the floor in frustration and she also falls to the floor. Then Donna Summer helps her up. After work, the woman comes home again and sees how devastated the whole house is. In the end, many women dance on the street.
