Konrad Zahn (born April 6, 1891 in Walldorf (Baden) , † July 28, 1980 in Heidelberg ) was a German politician ( NSDAP ) and SS leader .

Live and act

Zahn attended elementary school and high school up to the lower secondary level . From 1907 to 1910 he studied architecture at the Karlsruhe State Technical College and trained with an architect. From 1910 to 1912 he did his military service with the Grenadier Regiment 110 . At the First World War he took from 1914 to 1918 with the 6th Company of Infantry Regiment 112 and the Bavarian third machine-gun company in part. After being wounded six times and awarded the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd class as well as the Baden Medal of Merithad been awarded, he was taken prisoner of war in October 1918, from which he was released in March 1920. A state-certified architect and builder since 1920 , Zahn worked as a freelance architect in Heidelberg until 1933.

In March 1920, Zahn joined the Deutschvölkischer Schutz- und Trutzbund . In August 1928 he became a member of the NSDAP ( membership number 245.481); in July 1929 he joined the SS (SS No. 1,868). From September 1929, Zahn built up the SS in Heidelberg; From August 1931 he was responsible as Sturmbannführer for Sturmbann I / 32 in Heidelberg. From October 1930 to 1933 he was a city councilor in Heidelberg.

After the transfer of power to the National Socialists, Zahn was a member of the Baden state parliament for a few months . From November 1933 to March 1936 he was a member of the National Socialist Reichstag for constituency 32 (Baden) . In the Reichstag election on March 29, 1936 , he ran again, but received no more mandate. In Heidelberg, Zahn was councilor of the city from 1935 to 1945 according to the German municipal code .

In the SS, Zahn was last promoted to Standartenführer in February 1934. Most recently employed as leader of the 35th SS Standard, Zahn retired from active SS service in June 1935 and was again working as an independent architect in Heidelberg.

During World War II Zahn was a member of the Waffen SS . In January 1940 he was the reserve leader of the 8th SS-Totenkopfstandarte in Cracow . Between March 1940 and October 1943 he was a member of the SS Infantry Regiment 8, which emerged from the Totenkopfstandarte, most recently as a company commander and deputy leader of a battalion. In 1944 and 1945 he was in command of the supply troops of the 18th SS Volunteer Panzer Grenadier Division "Horst Wessel" . In November 1944 he was promoted to SS-Sturmbannführer of the reserve.
