Marlisa Punzalan 2014

Marlisa Ann Punzalan (born October 1, 1999 ), internationally known under the stage name Marlisa , is an Australian singer who won the sixth season of the talent competition The X-Factor Australia in 2014. At the age of 15, Punzalan was the youngest applicant to win this talent show. Success on the show was linked to a recording deal with Sony Music Australia.

Immediately after the talent show, Punzalan released her debut single "Stand by You", which quickly reached position 2 on the ARIA chart and was awarded platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). This was followed by the release of her debut album Marlisa , which reached position 6 in the ARIA album charts and was awarded gold. “Stand by You” was nominated for the “ARIA Award for Song of the Year”. The American veteran organization “Wounded Warrior Project” selected “Stand by You” as the motto song for the “Wounded Warrior Super Bowl” competitions and invited Punzalan to the final and a live performance of the song.

Early life

Marlisa Ann Punzalan was born on October 1st, 1999 in Sydney as the second child of Lito and Andrea Punzalan. Punzalan's parents immigrated to Australia from the Philippines before she and her older brother Martin were born. Punzalan lives in Glendenning, New South Wales . Punzalan started singing at the age of three. In 2013, Punzalan applied to participate in Australia's Got Talent- Seventh Season talent competition , but was not accepted due to reasons of age and her shyness. Punzalan's application to the The Voice Kids talent competition was also unsuccessful because it exceeded the age limit by a month. Shortly before entering the X-Factor Show - Season 6 , Punzalan had been a student at Mercy Catholic College in Chatswood, New South Wales in the spring of 2014 and performed regularly at charity events as well as Eisteddfods and RSL competitions. After winning the Australian X-Factor competition, Punzalan left college for home schooling so that he could focus on her career as a musician.

Career

2014: 'The X Factor Australia'

Punzalan's application for the sixth season of The X Factor Australia was accepted. At the first appearance in front of a large audience (audition) Punzalan performed "Yesterday", the Beatles' song of the century . The jury rewarded Punzalan's appearance with “standing ovations” from the four jurors and unanimous approval for “The X-Factor Australia Season 6 Super Bootcamp”. Punzalan mastered the first “Bootcamp Challenge” within a group of three other competitors from the “Competitors younger than 25 years” category. Punzalan successfully completed the second bootcamp challenge by covering the song Never Be the Same by Jessica Mauboy with great success in front of the jury and an audience of thousands. Then she played the "Home Visits Round" in New York City (with minor vocal problems) and sang I'll Stand by You, a song by The Pretenders, in the presence of her mentor Ronan Keating and guest mentor John Legend . Keating then selected Punzalan, along with Sydnee Carter and Caitlyn Shadbolt, for the final live shows - a series of eleven weekly appearances, during which one applicant is eliminated each week by an audience vote.

After Carter and Shadbolt were eliminated, Punzalan was Keating's only candidate. During the semifinals she got into the "Bottom Two" elimination with singer Reigan Derry and sang in a duel with Reigan John Farnham 's version of The Beatle's Help! After the jury did not come to a decision when choosing between Derry and Punzalan, the public vote was decisive, which Derry rejected and Punzalan helped to reach the final. At the end of the “Grand Final Decider Show” on October 20, 2014, which Punzalan and Dean Ray contested together, the Australian TV audience chose Punzalan as the winner.
