John Farnham
John Peter Farnham AO (born July 1, 1949 in Dagenham , Essex , England ) is an Australian singer and has been one of the most famous and successful musicians in his home country for decades. With the song You're the Voice in 1987, Farnham had a number one hit in several European countries .
Life
Farnham, whose family emigrated to Australia in 1959, had his first commercial success with the song Sadie the Cleaning Lady , which sold 180,000 times, an Australian record in the 1960s. In the 1970s he was involved in various television productions.
From 1981 to 1984 he was the front man of the Little River Band , with whom he released three albums. The 1986 solo album Whispering Jack with the release You're the Voice was one of the greatest successes and finally gave Farnham the breakthrough. To date, John Farnham has received more than 70 platinum awards in Australia for his releases, including 24 for Whispering Jack , the second most successful album in Australian music history after Bat Out of Hell by Meat Loaf .
Since then he has appeared in numerous productions and concerts with other well-known pop and rock greats , such as B. at the opening of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney , when he performed with Olivia Newton-John . In 2003 he was honored with induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame .
Farnham has been married to Jillian Billman since 1973 and has two sons. In 1996 he was awarded the title "Officer of the Order of Australia".
