You're the Voice is a pop rock song sung by Australian singer John Farnham . It was released in September 1986 as a single from Whispering Jack's album . The song reached number 1 in Germany , also in Australia and a few other countries, number 3 in Switzerland and number 6 in Austria and Great Britain . The song won the ARIA Awards in 1987 as "Single of the Year" and " Best Selling Song of the Year".
The song is known, among other things, for the later use of bagpipes in the chorus.

The piece was written by Andy Qunta, Chris Thompson , Keith Reid and Maggie Ryder and produced by Ross Fraser with John Farnham. After initial successes in Farnham's home country Australia, the piece became a hit in many European countries from the beginning of 1987. Only in the USA was it not a major success. It only reached number 88 there in 1990. Co-author Chris Thompson later sang it in live performances with the "Soulmates" and the group " Alan Parsons Project ".
Further use
The song appeared in the 2007 film Hot Rod - Full Throttle Through Hell and was also included in the film's soundtrack. It was also used in the video game Grand Theft Auto : Episodes from Liberty City .
Cover versions
Among the numerous cover versions is that of the German band Blind Guardian on the album At the Edge of Time (2010). The band Heart released a live cover version on their album Rock the House Live! In 1991 . , which made it to number 56 on the UK charts.
In 2014, the German singer Helene Fischer covered the song on her Farbenspiel tour.
