Keith Reid

Keith Stuart Brian Reid (born October 19, 1946 in Welwyn Garden City , Hertfordshire) is a British songwriter. Until 2007 he was a permanent member of the rock group Procol Harum .

Life & Work

Keith Reid grew up in London and left school early. In 1966 he met Gary Brooker, with whom he wrote most of Procol Harum's songs.

His greatest success is A Whiter Shade Of Pale (1967), which he wrote with Gary Brooker and Matthew Fisher . All of Procol Harum's texts come from his pen. His appearance on stage is a very rare experience; he was last seen in Germany in October 1972. He has also written texts for Robin Trower , Frankie Miller , Peter Frampton , John Waite , Gary Brooker and Chris Thompson .

Reid also wrote the lyrics for French singer Michel Polnareff's debut album and co-wrote the lyrics for John Farnham's hit , You're the Voice , in 1986 . He teamed up again with Brooker and Procol Harum for the album The Prodigal Stranger , which came out in 1991.

In 1986, Reid took over management of Mickey Jupp and Frankie Miller . In 1998 he published the book My Own Choice . In August 2008, a CD called The Keith Reid Project came out, which recorded various musicians, including Southside Johnny , Chris Thompson , John Waite and Michael Saxell.

Today Reid lives mostly in America .
