John Charles Waite (born July 4, 1952 in Lancaster ) is a British rock singer , bassist and songwriter. His biggest hit was the 1984 single Missing You .

Career

In 1976, John Waite was a founding member of the British band The Babies and became their lead singer . In 1981 the group separated. Waite started his solo career with the 1982 album Ignition , from which the single Change was decoupled. The second album, No Brakes , made him known internationally. It contained the hit Missing You , which made it to number 1 on the US charts , but also reached high chart prices in Europe. By 1987 two more albums, Mask of Smiles and Rovers Return , were released, which contained several successful singles.

In 1988 Waite interrupted his solo career to take on the lead singer of the newly formed band Bad English , which also included Journey guitarist Neal Schon and Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain. After two single hits and a platinum album , the group split in 1991. It wasn't until 1995 that a new John Waite LP hit stores. The album Temple Bar could not build on the old successes. There were five more albums by 2006, followed by a five-year break in production. In 2011 Waite released the album Rough and Tumble .
