Laura Voutilainen
Laura Voutilainen (born May 17, 1975 in Jyväskylä ) is a Finnish pop singer who took part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 .
Career
Laura Voutilainen released her debut single in 1993 with the title Muuttanut oot maailmain ("I changed the world"). Her breakthrough came in 1994 with the song Kerran . In 1994 as well as 1996 she received the Emma Award , the most important Finnish music prize, as "Singer of the Year" .
In 2002 she took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in Tallinn after winning the Finnish preliminary round in Tampere . With her song Addicted to You she came in 20th place out of 24 participants. In 2007 she was again represented with two songs in the Finnish preliminary round, but did not make the leap into the international competition with Take a Chance or with Kosketa mua performed in the local language .
Nevertheless, Voutilainen is still one of the most successful singers in her country. In the past 20 years, seven of their albums reached the top 10 of the charts. The most successful was her self-titled debut from 1994, which was awarded double platinum. With over 100,000 units sold, it is one of the 50 most successful albums of all time in Finland.
In 2016 and 2017, Voutilainen hit the Finnish singles charts for the first time since her Eurovision contribution. Both Miks ei and Mä en kestä reached the top 10. The first-mentioned song was covered in June 2017 by Nikke Ankara on Vain elämää , the Finnish edition of Sing mein Song , and its version came in at number 10 while she was participating the show released the album Miks ei , with which Voutilainen took third place in the album charts for the third time.
