Aksel Kankaanranta

Aksel Kankaanranta (born January 28, 1998 in Turku ) is a Finnish singer. He was supposed to represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam with the song Looking Back . However, the competition had to be canceled on March 18, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

Life

In 2017 Aksel Kankaanranta achieved notoriety through his participation in The Voice of Finland , where he finished second behind the winner Saija Saarnisto. The following year he worked with the Finnish rapper Pyhimys. Her song Jättiläinen reached number 1 on the Finnish charts and became the most successful song of the year in Finland.

With his song Looking Back Kankaanranta took part in the Finnish preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020, Uuden Musikiin Kilpailu . There he won with 170 points on March 7th after winning the jury voting with 76 points and taking second place in the audience vote with 94 points. Thus, he should represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in the second semifinals on May 14, 2020. The competition had to be canceled.
