Anton Obholzer

Anton Manfred Obholzer (born June 29, 1968 in Cape Town , South Africa ) is a former British rower .

Athletic career

Anton Obholzer finished seventh in eighth place at the 1986 Junior World Championships . In 1987 he entered the four-four at the Match des Seniors , a forerunner competition to the U23 World Championships , and also came in seventh here.

In 1988 Anton Obholzer moved up to the British eighth. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, the British eighth rowed Richard Stanhope , Anton Obholzer, Peter Beaumont , Gavin Stewart , Terence Dillon , Salih Hassan , Stephen Turner , Nicholas Burfitt and helmsman Simon Jefferies . The British took third place behind the boat from the USSR and the Canadians in the run-up, but won their hope run. In the final, the Germany eight won ahead of the boat from the USSR and the boat from the United States. Three seconds behind the US boat, the British took fourth place.

In 1989 Anton Obholzer finished ninth in the singles match in the senior's match . At the 1989 World Championships in Bled, Tim Foster , Matthew Brittin , Jim Walker , Anton Obholzer, Jonny Singfield , Richard Phelps , Jonathan Searle , Jonathan Hulls , and helmsman Adrian Ellison rowed in the British eighth. The crew won the bronze medal behind the boats from the FRG and the GDR . At the 1990 World Championships , Obholzer rowed in a four-man with a helmsman , who took fourth place. At the 1991 World Championships in Vienna, the British eighth won the bronze medal behind the boats from Germany and Canada in the line-up of Martin Cross , Tim Foster, Anton Obholzer, Richard Phelps, Gregory Searle , Jonathan Searle, Jonny Singfield, Richard Stanhope and helmsman Garry Herbert .

The 2.00 m tall Anton Obholzer rowed for the University of London . His brother Rupert started at the 1992 Olympic Games in the British eight and in 1996 in the four without a helmsman .
