Jedward
Jedward is an Irish music duo consisting of the identical twins John Paul Henry Daniel Richard Grimes and Edward Peter Anthony Kevin Patrick Grimes (born October 16, 1991 in Dublin , Ireland ).
Childhood and youth
The identical twins John Paul Henry Daniel Richard Grimes and Edward Peter Anthony Kevin Patrick Grimes were born in Dublin. Their first school was the Scoil Bhríde National School in Rathangan. They later attended King's Hospital School for four years and then transferred to the Dublin Institute of Education . The twins attended school talent shows and were inspired by Justin Timberlake , Britney Spears, and the Backstreet Boys . They were also members of various sports clubs and participated in several Irish sports tournaments. In addition, they worked briefly as a computer game tester for X-Box 360 . You support the football clubs Newcastle United and Celtic .
Career
2009: Start at X Factor
They became known for their participation in the British talent show The X Factor in 2009, where they played the role of the controversial, flashy candidate. The two then 17-year-old twins were less noticeable for their singing qualities than for their steep hairstyles and colorful outfits. In addition, X-Factor juror Simon Cowell certified them lacking talent and called it a "disaster" if they won. Nevertheless, he refrained from selecting Jedward early and joined the audience voting when another singer was playing. The duo made headlines for weeks, and even an expression of opinion from then-British Prime Minister Gordon Brown became news. The two Irish made it to under the last six, but then had to play for the second time and were eliminated in the play-off against Olly Murs .
2010: Number one in Ireland and debut single
In January 2010, John and Edward Grimes were signed by Sony Music . Their first single was a version of Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice , a rap song mixed with parts of Under Pressure by Queen & David Bowie . The US rapper Vanilla Ice also took part in the recording and appeared with them at the presentation of the British television award. Upon release in the first week of February 2010, the song debuted at number one in Ireland and number two in the UK. After a week, however, the title slipped to number twelve in the UK charts and Sony canceled the contract with Jedward on March 16, 2010. The twins, whose manager is X-Factor jury member Louis Walsh (Westlife), signed a new one the next day Contract with the Universal Music Group .
The twins are now volunteering as the official ambassadors of the Irish children's aid organization ISPCC, “Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children”. During their school days they were victims of abuse themselves, and as victims of a beating attack, they used make-up to advertise in a spot for more attention to violence against children.
2011: Participation in the Eurovision Song Contest and Lipstick
With the title Lipstick , the single release of their debut album, Jedward won the Irish Grand Prix preliminary round on February 11, 2011 as part of the Late Late Show broadcast by Irish national television station RTÉ , just ahead of the singer Nikki Kavanagh . On May 12, 2011 Jedward qualified in Düsseldorf in the second semifinals of the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 for the final round on May 14, where they finished eighth with 119 points.
In Germany, Lipstick rose to number one on the iTunes charts shortly after the Eurovision Song Contest finale and number six nationwide. However, it was not placed in the official German charts because their label Universal had not registered the song for a chart rating. One week after the Eurovision Song Contest, the title was registered and entered the German charts at number 12 as a download-only title. On June 3, the song was also released as a CD single. Two weeks later, the official release date of another piece was announced: Bad Behavior was released on July 1st.
In an interview with a German Ireland online magazine, the Irish Grand Prix record winner Johnny Logan gave the Dublin twins little chance of winning the title because they couldn't sing.
From August 18 to September 8, 2011, they took part in the British celebrity version of Big Brother . They left the house in third place.
When the former US President Barack Obama visited College Green in Dublin City in 2011, Jedward were allowed to perform in front of 60,000 people.
2012: Participation in the ESC again
After the national preliminary decision in 2012, which Jedward had won by a wide margin, they represented Ireland again at the Eurovision Song Contest in Azerbaijan's capital Baku . With the song Waterline they qualified for the final on May 26th, in which they finished 19th with 46 points.
Third album Young Love
The song Waterline was also released as the first single from the studio album Young Love . In the run-up to the European Championships in 2012, the song Lipstick was released with a new text under the name Put the Green Cape On .
On June 22, 2012, their third album Young Love was released. The Victory Tour followed , which also included a few gigs in Germany. Singles were also released for the songs Young Love and Luminous . Music videos for some of the songs on the album were later shot for the video platform YouTube . As a result of the tour and the new album, Jedward also traveled to Canada, Singapore and Australia, where they appeared on several radio broadcasts. Also in 2013 was the second season of their BBC show Jedward's Big Adventure .
