Lesley Roy

Lesley Roy (born September 17, 1986 in Dublin ) is an Irish singer-songwriter . She should have represented her country with the song Story Of My Life at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam , which had to be canceled on March 18, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

Life

Roy grew up in Balbriggan near the Irish capital Dublin. Her mother worked as a singer. She began to learn guitar at the age of seven. At the age of 15 she recorded her first demos. In 2008 she released her debut album Unbeautiful , which was produced by Max Martin , on the record label Jive Records . She later went to New York City as a songwriter , where she wrote songs for singers such as Adam Lambert , Jana Kramer , Medina and Deorro , among others . With Deorro she performed at the Coachella Festival . She lives in both Ireland and the United States . Together with Jeff Johnson, she moderates the Pop Kitchen podcast , in which the two talk about pop music .

On March 5, 2020, the Irish broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ) announced that it would represent Ireland at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest. She would have sung the song Story Of My Life , which she wrote with Robert Marvin, Catt Gravitt and Tom Shapiro in Nashville . The competition was canceled on March 18, 2020. The Irish broadcaster RTÉ then stated that it would basically allow the singer to participate again, but the final decision would only be made when Roy submitted a song. In July 2020 she released the single Gold .

She has been married to her American wife since December 2010.
