Nicky Byrne (* 9. October 1978 in Dublin , Ireland as Nicholas Bernard James Adam Byrne ) is an Irish pop singer and belonged until 2012, was dissolved as the group to pop group Westlife .

Career

Before joining Westlife, Byrne played football professionally. In 1995 he was included in the youth team of Leeds United and won the 1997 FA Youth Cup with the club . Most recently, he was under contract with the Cobh Ramblers , where he played 11 games in the Irish second division as a goalkeeper. Byrne played for Ireland in the U15, U17 and U18 national teams. In 1998 he became a member of the boy band Westlife. With this he achieved several number one hits in various European countries.

On January 13, 2016, after some rumors about his participation, RTÉ announced that Byrne would in fact represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm , Sweden with the song Sunlight . It was the first internal selection of an ESC participant for RTÉ since 2007. However, he could not qualify for the final of the competition. In 2013, 2014 and 2015 he announced the points for Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest.

He has been employed since February 9, 2016 at the label Universal Music Ireland under contract.

Private

Byrne's parents are Yvonne and Nikki Byrne (also singers). He has two siblings. Nicky Byrne has been married to Georgina Ahern, a daughter of former Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern and sister of the writer Cecelia Ahern , since August 5, 2003 . They live in Malahide , a suburb of Dublin, very close to Georgina's childhood home. They became parents to two boys on April 20, 2007 and a daughter on October 23, 2013. On November 3, 2009, Nicky's father suddenly and unexpectedly died of a heart attack.
