Brian Kennedy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brian Edward Patrick Kennedy (born October 12, 1966 in Belfast ) is a Northern Irish singer and author.

Life

He had his first success in 1990 with his debut album The Great War of Words and the single Captured . In the mid-90s, hits like A Better Man , Put the Message in the Box and Life, Love and Happiness followed , which were able to assert themselves in both the British and Irish charts. The accompanying album A Better Man was album of the year in Ireland and went four times platinum .

In the 1990s, Kennedy was also regularly hired by Van Morrison and was subsequently not only featured as a background singer on a few studio albums, but also supported Van Morrison at numerous live gigs. On his 1994 album "Live at San Francisco", the Irish grandmaster had him interpret both "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" and "Tupelo Honey".

At the turn of the millennium, Brian Kennedy made an excursion to Broadway as a musical actor, where he appeared on the Irish Riverdance show .

In 2005 he sang at the funeral of the Northern Irish football idol George Best, also from Belfast . The commemorative single George Best - A Tribute , released afterwards , became his greatest success to date.

Almost at the same time he was chosen to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 . When the decision was made in May 2006, his self-written Every Song Is a Cry for Love came in 10th. It so happened that this song was the 1000th entry in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Kennedy has also been an author since 2004 and two novels by him have appeared on the English-speaking market so far. In 2009, Kennedy came out as gay.
