Ryan O'Shaughnessy (born September 27, 1992 in Loughshinny , County Dublin ; Irish Rían Ó Seachnasaigh ) is an Irish singer , songwriter and actor . He represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon with the song Together .

Life

O'Shaughnessy grew up with two older siblings in Skerries , a small coastal town north of Dublin . Before starting his music career, he played for nine years (2001-2010) in the Irish soap opera Fair City . His uncle Gary O'Shaughnessy is also a singer and came 21st for Ireland at the 2001 Eurovision Song Contest with Without Your Love .

In 2012 Ryan O'Shaughnessy started with both Voice of Ireland and Britain's Got Talent . He reached the live shows on both casting shows, but dropped out on Voice of Ireland on the first live show. In Britain's Got Talent he reached the finals and finished fifth with his self-written song No Name . He was signed by RCA Records and released his self-named EP in August 2012, which reached number one in Ireland.

A year later he took part in the Irish songwriting casting show The Hit and reached the finals - but he could not prevail against the four competitors.

O'Shaughnessy was selected in an internal selection at the broadcasting company RTÉ as a participant from Ireland for the Eurovision Song Contest . The competition was held between May 8th and 12th 2018 in the Altice Arena in Lisbon . With his contribution Together, he successfully participated in the first semifinals of the competition and finally finished 16th in the final.
