Afro-dite is a Swedish pop group and participant in the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 .

background

The band name Afro-dite is a play on words from the terms Aphrodite and Afro , which alludes to the dark skin color of the women. With their dance title Never Let It Go , the trio won the 2002 Swedish preliminary round, the Melodifestivalen . At the final of the Eurovision Song Contest , the group reached eighth place, although Afro-dite were bet on victory as favorites. Never Let It Go made it to number one in the Swedish singles charts . In May, the group's debut album of the same name followed in the top 10 of the album charts.

A year later, Afro-dite took part in the Melodifestivalen again. With Aqua-playa they made it to the final of the preliminary decision again, but had to be content with seventh place.

After that it became quiet about the group, which in 2007 offered their mini album Afro-dite for free download on their website.

Her third and so far last attempt to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 was not very successful . In the first semi-final of the Melodifestival, they only achieved fifth place and were eliminated early.
