Ted Gärdestad
Ted Gärdestad (born February 18, 1956 in Sollentuna , † June 22, 1997 in Häggvik, Sollentuna) was a Swedish singer , musician and composer.
Career
He was discovered by Stig Anderson and his first single was released on Polar Music in 1971 . His debut album Undringar was produced by Björn and Benny from ABBA and, like the other albums, was a chart success in Sweden. Gärdestad tried his hand at Melodifestivalen four times (1973, 1975, 1979, 1980), but only in 1979 was he able to win with the pop-rock title Satellite . At the Eurovision Song Contest 1979 he had to be content with third from bottom.
In 1981 he sang for the Caramba project , after which he retired from the music business. In the 1990s he had a successful comeback, recorded a new album and went on tour.
Gärdestad had two children from a relationship with actress Ann Zacharias . He died of suicide in 1997 by throwing himself in front of a moving train. He had suffered from paranoid schizophrenia for years .
He wrote most of his songs together with his brother Kenneth Gärdestad .
