He was best known for working for his brother Ted Gärdestad . In 1979 he and his brother won the Melodifestivalen with the song Satellite . Life

Musical career

Kenneth Gärdestad grew up in a musical family. His brother Ted made a name for himself early on as a singer and his older brother Kjell was also a songwriter. The Gärdestads supported their younger brother. Kenneth in particular wrote some of his most famous pieces with him. So they wrote together Oh, vilken härlig da ' for Melodifestivalen 1973, Rockin' n 'Reelin' for Melodifestivalen 1975 and together with Kjell the winning title Satellite for Melodifestivalen 1979. Ted competed with the song at the Eurovision Song Contest 1979 in Jerusalem , but won only a 17th place.

Ted Gärdestadt committed suicide in 1997 after suffering from paranoid schizophrenia for several years . Kenneth, who observed his brother's ordeal very closely, wrote the book Jag vill ha en egen måne about his brother in 2005 together with Keijo Liimatainen . In order to honor his brother and to draw attention to his illness, he participated in the creation of the Ted Gärdestad Scholarship in 1999 , a scholarship for young singers and songwriters. In addition to the awarding of the scholarships, a tribute concert was held every year in Ted's honor.

In 2008 he took part in the SVT show Doobidoo together with Lotta Engberg . In 2010 he tried again with a contribution to the Melodifestivalen with the title Hur kan jag tro på kärlek? for Erik Linder . The song reached number five in the semifinals.

In 2016 he was awarded the honorary award of the music publishers' organization Musikförläggarna for his life's work . In the same year he was the star guest in the last episode of the seventh season of Så mycket bättre , in which some hits that he had written for and with his brother were performed. In 2018 he won the Grammis , also for his life's work. In the same year he took part in the television documentary Ted: För kärlekens skull in order to make the scenes as realistic as possible. In the film he was played by Peter Viitanen .

architecture

Kenneth Gärdestadt was the chief architect of the private schools in Kunskapsskolan and designed most of the classrooms. These private schools refer to themselves as knowledge schools and are aimed at students in grades 4 to 9 (between 10 and 16 years of age). Some also have an upper school level. The architecture of around 80 schools, 36 of them in Sweden, the rest spread across Great Britain (four), India (two), the United States (one), the Netherlands (approx. 30) and Saudi Arabia (one), is the same . It is very open, with many glass elements and colored walls.

death

Kenneth Gärdestad stated in 2014 that he suffered from skin cancer and lymph gland cancer . He died of these diseases on March 3, 2018 at the age of 69.
