Live and act

Rudolph Nagell, who is believed to have received his comprehensive school and music education at the Paulinum grammar school in Münster , took up his position in Altlünen in the former Marian pilgrimage site of Lünen at the St. Marien church .

On October 16, 1674 he married Elisabeth Lonnemann, with whom he had eight children, including Johann Wilhelm Nagell (spelling: Nagel) (1678–1738), who later took up his position as sexton and organist at St. Marien in Lünen.

Nagell achieved national importance as a Catholic church musician with the publication of the Melodeyen on the chants and psalms of the Münster chant book , a total of 199 songs. In the hymn book of God's praise of the diocese of Münster there are notes with the indication of origin “Münster 1677”, among other things, for the song Schönster Herr Jesu , ruler of all gentlemen . He donated the copper engravings for the images of the grace of Mary for his place of birth Rulle and the image of the miraculous image of the Mother of God at Alten- Lünen intended for Lünen .

Not far from his house, which was built in 1690 and is a listed building, there is Rudolph-Nagell-Straße in his memory in Nordlünen.
