Cyrill Nunn

Cyrill Jean Nunn (born March 11, 1958 in Düsseldorf ) is a German diplomat and has been ambassador to Egypt since September 2019 .

Life

After attending school in Lyon and Brussels , Nunn began studying history and economics at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf in 1976 and later at the Université libre de Bruxelles and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , which he graduated in 1983. He then did his military service in the Air Force between 1984 and 1985 and joined the Foreign Service in 1985 . During his two-year training as an attaché , he received his doctorate at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich in 1985 with a dissertation on the subject of Belgium between Germany and France 1925–1934 . Cyrill Nunn is married and has three children.

career

After completing the career examination for the higher service, he was employed at the embassies in Iran , Pakistan and Italy between 1987 and 1992 and was then a consultant in the Western Balkans department at the Federal Foreign Office until 1995 . After he was Counselor for Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) at the Permanent Representation to the European Union (EU) in Brussels from 1995 to 1999 , he served as Head of Unit for European Policy in the Federal Chancellery until 2002 . In 2002 Nunn became permanent representative of the ambassador to Israel and between 2005 and 2008 he was head of the export control unit at the Federal Foreign Office. After a subsequent position as deputy head of the ministerial office in the Federal Foreign Office, he was the representative for Asia and Pacific policy in the Federal Foreign Office from 2009 to 2012.

In July 2012, Nunn became Ambassador to Pakistan, succeeding Michael Koch , who in turn became the Federal Government's Special Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan. On July 12, 2012, he delivered his credentials to Asif Ali Zardari , the President of Pakistan . His successor as ambassador to Pakistan in July 2015 was Ina Lepel , the former representative of the Federal Foreign Office for global issues. From 2015 to 2017 he was employed as a representative for human rights, international development and social affairs in the Federal Foreign Office. From July 2017 to September 2019 Nunn was ambassador to Iraq . In September 2019, he replaced Julius Georg Luy as ambassador to Egypt.
