Julius Georg Luy
Julius Georg Luy (born July 20, 1953 in Rheinhausen ) is a German diplomat and was the German ambassador to Egypt from 2015 to 2019 . From 2011 to 2015 Luy was ambassador to the Council of Europe .
Life
After graduating from high school , Luy began studying law at the University of Cologne in 1973 and passed his first state examination in 1978 . In 1979 he became an assistant at the University of Augsburg and then at the University of Cologne.
career
In 1981 he joined the Foreign Service and, after completing his preparatory service in 1983, worked in the Department of Disarmament and Arms Control of the Foreign Office , before becoming consul and political advisor at the embassy in Thailand from 1984 to 1987 . Afterwards he was permanent representative of the ambassador to Lebanon for a year and then from 1988 to 1989 press officer of the permanent representation to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg . He then returned to the Foreign Office and worked in the Germany and Berlin departments during the two-plus-four negotiations before he was consul general in Szczecin between 1990 and 1991 . Subsequently, he was initially head of the economic department at the embassy in Russia and then from 1994 to 1998 head of the “Future Perspectives of the Foreign Service” working group at the Foreign Office.
In 1998 he was accredited as an ambassador to Haiti . From 2001 to 2004, he was responsible for environmental and biopolitical issues at the Foreign Office and subsequently envoy at the embassy in India . From 2008 to 2011 Julius Georg Luy was the German ambassador to Myanmar and will be replaced there in 2011 by Christian-Ludwig Weber-Lortsch . From September 2011 to 2015 Julius Georg Luy was German Ambassador to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg and at the same time head of the German Consulate General in Strasbourg.
