Hansjörg Haber

Hansjörg Haber (born February 21, 1953 in Munich ) is a German diplomat . From 2015 to 2016 he was Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Turkey and from 2017 to October 2018 Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Yemen .

Life

After graduating from Atlantic College in Wales, he studied economics at the University of Munich , where he also worked as a research assistant, before joining the Foreign Service . Hansjörg Haber is married to the diplomat Emily Haber , with whom he has two children.

career

After working in Paris , Moscow , Manila and Ankara , from 2002 to 2006 he was Head of Unit for Fundamental Issues of the United Nations in the Foreign Office and therefore responsible for the strategic planning and development of the German position on UN peace missions and the role of the UN in regional conflicts. Then he was the German ambassador in Beirut. From September 16, 2008 to the end of April 2011, Hansjörg Haber was head of the EU observer mission in Georgia. In the course of this activity, Hansjörg Haber was monitored by his own German intelligence services, independently by the BND and without the permission of the G-10 Commission , which was revealed in the course of the BND affair in 2015.

On March 28, 2011, Haber was appointed Head of the Civilian Planning and Conduct Capability (CPCC) in the European External Action Service by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton . Haber was the German ambassador in Cairo from 2014 to 2015. He was then appointed as the successor to Stefano Manservisi as Head of the Delegation of the European Union, colloquially as the EU Ambassador to Turkey. He resigned from this post on June 14, 2016.

From January 11, 2017, Haber was ad interim head of the German Embassy in Prague . In September 2017 he was accredited as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Sanaa , where he worked until 2018.
