Stefano Manservisi

Stefano Manservisi (born September 9, 1954 in Bologna ) is an Italian EU official . From 2016 to October 1, 2019, he was Director General of the Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO).

Live and act

Manservisi studied law at the University of Bologna from 1974 to 1979 with a degree. This was followed by postgraduate studies at the Universities of Strasbourg and Paris. Manservisi then worked briefly for an Italian law firm, then from 1981 to 1983 for the Italian foreign trade institute.

Manservisi joined the European Commission in 1983. His career there began in the Directorates General for Agriculture and Development. From 1995 to 2000 he was first vice head of cabinet and then head of cabinet for EU Commissioner Mario Monti , then initially vice head of cabinet and from 2001 to 2004 head of cabinet for Commission President Romano Prodi . From 2004 to 2010 he was Director General, first of the Directorate-General for Development and Relations with Africa, and then to 2014 of the Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs. He then headed the EU representation in Turkey for half a year before returning to Brussels in November 2014 as head of cabinet of EU foreign commissioner Federica Mogherini .

He has headed the Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development since May 2016. In July 2019, the European Commission announced that Manservisi was retiring. His designated successor on October 1, 2019 is Koen Doens .
