EU official

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

EU officials are supranational officials of the European Union who perform different tasks. For example, they check and report on candidate countries for EU membership . The officials work for the European Commission , the European Parliament or the Council , in which the member states are represented. They enjoy immunity in connection with the exercise of their office. EU officials, depending on their authority, are entrusted with the implementation and control of European law, often working with the Member States. The Commission monitors compliance with the EU treaties and can take legal action against companies as well as against individual governments.

The EU officials are part of the European civil service .

European service law

European public service law (in short: European service law ) has taken on a pioneering role in the area of public service law and in the development of individual protection principles in judicial rulings. To be mentioned here are the principles of equal treatment , the prohibition of discrimination , the duty of care of the appointing authority, administrative self-commitment , protection of legitimate expectations and the principle of good faith ; In relation to proceedings, there is also the right to be heard and the obligation to give reasons .

The European service law is said to have a strong influence on the approximation of national service law and to serve as a role model in European integration.

The Court for the Public Service of the European Union was responsible for legal disputes between the European Union and its officials or other servants .

status

EU officials are subject to a special statute under European law.

The salary development is determined according to an index method according to the purchasing power development.

Those who are not employed in accordance with the EU civil servant status (agents contractuels) are also exempt from the protective provisions provided by the respective labor or social law in their country of posting or residence.

The Union syndicale union brings together 1,067 of the 10,000 EU civil servants employed in Luxembourg .

EU civil servants' salaries (but not other types of income for EU civil servants, e.g. rental income or interest) are exempt from national income tax. Instead, civil servants' salaries are subject to a progressive community tax, which is between 8 and 45 percent depending on the salary and is returned to the EU budget.
