Christoph Israng

Christoph Israng (* 1971 in Ulm ) is a German diplomat . He has been the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Czech Republic since August 8, 2017 .

Life

Israng received his PhD as Dr. rer. nat in economic geography in Bonn . At WHU in Koblenz , he completed a degree in business administration, which he completed with a degree in business administration. This was followed by a Master of Business Administration at the Management School of Lancaster University . Israng also studied at Georgetown University in Washington, DC , the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México in Mexico City and at the Open University in Hagen . In the Air Force he received training as a reserve officer. Israng has had the rank of Colonel of the Reserve since 2019. Israng has three children.

career

After various positions in German and international companies, Israng began his career as a diplomat. He has been working in the Federal Foreign Office since 1997 . At the headquarters of the Federal Foreign Office, Israng worked, among other things, in the Security Policy / NATO department and in the Office of State Secretaries. He also worked as a foreign policy advisor in the German Bundestag , as head of the office of the Deputy High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo and in the German consulates general in Istanbul and Saint Petersburg . From 2006 he worked in the Federal Chancellery until he became permanent representative at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague on July 3, 2014 . Before that, he headed Unit 212, which was responsible for Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia.

On August 8, 2017, Israng handed over his credentials as German ambassador to the Czech Republic to President Miloš Zeman .
