Ahmet Üzümcü (born August 30, 1951 in Armutlu , Yalova ) is a Turkish career diplomat and general director of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). He graduated in political science at the University of Ankara .

Üzümcü worked from 1979 to 1982 in the Turkish Embassy in Vienna in Austria , and was 1982-1984 Consul of Turkey Consulate General in Syrian Aleppo . From July 28, 1999 to June 30, 2002, he was ambassador to Israel . Between 2002 and 2004 he served as Permanent Representative of Turkey in NATO . Üzümcü was 2006 Permanent Representative of Turkey in the United Nations Office at Geneva appointed and remained in that post until 2010. In 2008 he became chairman of the UN Disarmament Committee .

Üzümcü received an Honorary Doctorate for Lifetime Achievements in Arms Control and Disarmament from the Geneva School of Diplomacy in 2010 before accepting his post at the OPCW. In 2013 the OPCW was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Ahmet Üzümcü speaks fluent English and French and is married to Işıl Üzümcü.

From June 11th to 14th, 2015 he took part in the 63rd Bilderberg Conference in Telfs-Buchen , Austria .
