The Gailbach , sometimes also called Kleine Gail or Tiroler Gail , is a 9 km long right tributary of the Drau in East Tyrol .

The Gailbach rises on the Kartitscher Sattel , only around 150 m from the origin of the Gail  , which flows in the opposite direction . It flows in a westerly to northwestern direction through the western part of the Tyrolean Gailtal . Below Kartitsch , it has cut into a deep gorge as far as the exit into the Puster Valley . In the Pustertal, the Gailbach turns to the east, passes the cupsbach reservoir of the Strassen-Amlach power plant , which it also partially feeds, and flows into the Drau shortly afterwards.

The Gailbach receives tributaries almost exclusively from the left, the most important are the Verschbaumerbach, the Winkler Bach, the Schustertalbach and the Hollbruckerbach.

The catchment area is 45.2 km², the highest point in the catchment area is the Große Kinigat at 2689  m above sea level. A.

The cupsbach reservoir of the Strassen-Amlach power plant, completed in 1988, is fed by the Gailbach as well as the Drau. When the near-natural reservoir was built, the Gailbach largely retained its bed, but was changed to a meandering course due to the reduced water flow. Trout can be found here in the brook, which also serves as a breeding area for dipper and gray wagtail .
