The Amlach power plant is a run-of- river power plant owned by TIWAG on the Drau . It is the orographically highest of all Drau power plants and the only one in Tyrol . What is unusual for run-of-river power plants is the long diversion , which, starting from the Tassenbach reservoir, runs as a pressure tunnel over 22 km in the right side of the Pustertal through the Lienz Dolomites and enables a raw head of 370 m.

Cupsbach reservoir

The storage facility is located near Tassenbach in the municipality of Strassen just above the confluence of Gailbach and Tessenbergbach. While the Tessenbergbach remains unused, the water from the Tiroler Gail is discharged . The storage volume is 240,000 m³ and the storage target is 1069  m above sea level. A. , the lowering target 3 m below. The coordination of the power plant and storage facility allows for threshold operation with a daily cycle. The storage facility was designed to enrich the living space. The catchment area of the Drava was around 380 km² up to then; there is also that of the Gailbach with 45 km². World icon

Line constructions

The water is led from the reservoir via a 22 km long, 3.2 m thick pressure tunnel to the valve house, which is located in Leisach above the Galitzenklamm . There is a moated castle there . The water falls from the valve through a pressure shaft and a flat section into the turbine house.

Turbine house

The turbine house is located a little upstream from Amlach. Two upright Francis turbines are installed, which are coupled to three-phase alternators. The bottleneck power is 60,200 kW. The usable head is 340 m.
