The Formin power plant ( Hidroelectrarna Formin in Slovenian ) is a diversion power plant in the Gorišnica municipality , Slovenia . It is located on a canal that branches off about 8 km west of the power plant on the left side of the Drava . The power plant has an installed capacity of 116  MW . The eponymous village of Formin is located on the left bank of the river near the power station.

The power plant is owned by Dravske elektrarne Maribor (DEM) and is also operated by DEM.

Barrier structure and reservoir

In the village of Markovci , a weir system was built that dams the Drava to the Ptuj reservoir ( Ptujsko jezero in Slovenian ). A maximum of 4200 m³ / s can be discharged via the weir system. At the weir, the canal branches off on the left bank of the river, through which the water of the Drava flows to the Formin power station.

When fully blocked , the reservoir extends over an area of around 3.46 km² and holds 17.1 million m³ of water, of which 4.5 million can be used for generating electricity. The reservoir has a length of 7 km.

power plant

The power plant went into operation in 1978; it has an installed capacity of 116 MW. The average annual production is 548 million kWh . The two Kaplan turbines are each designed for 58 MW, and the associated generators for 74  MVA . The fall height is 29 m. The flow rate is 500 m³ / s.
