The Faal power plant ( Slovenian Hidroelectrarna Fala ) is a run-of- river power plant on the Drava near Faal in Lower Styria in Slovenia . Commissioned in 1918, it is the oldest of all power plants on the Drau . It has housed an industrial museum since 1998 and has been a technical monument since 2008 .

The power plant was built between 1913 and 1918 with five Francis turbines with a horizontal axis. The sponsor was a consortium with the participation of STEG , Albert Buss & Co., Graz and Leobersdorfer Maschinenfabrik . It was provided with a fish ladder and a raft lock. Further turbines followed in 1925 and 1932. In 1977, a Kaplan turbine followed as the eighth . Extensive renovation work was carried out in the 1990s. The turbine from 1977 was replaced by a more modern one and two more Kaplan turbines were installed, each with a vertical axis. The original power house with the Francis turbines became the heart of the museum.

The power plant dams the Drau to 8.6 km, with a volume of up to 4.2 million m³.
