Marius Haas (diplomat)

Marius Haas (born May 13, 1945 in Trondheim , Norway ) was a German diplomat until his retirement in 2010 .

education and study

After completing primary school in Radebeul / Saxony, Marius Haas switched to the Dresden Kreuzschule and became a singer in the Dresden Kreuzchor. 1958 Fled to the Federal Republic of Germany and continued high school education in Freising / Bavaria and Velbert / North Rhine-Westphalia. After a reserve officer training in the Bundeswehr from 1966 to 1969 with the last rank of first lieutenant d. R., Marius Haas completed a degree in political and communication sciences and geography at the University of Munich , which he completed in 1974 with a doctorate as Dr. phil. completed.

Diplomatic service

After joining the Foreign Service in 1975, he was employed at the Federal Chancellery in Bonn, at the embassies in Mexico and Liberia , at the Foreign Office in Bonn (planning staff), at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York and at the Office of the Federal President in Bonn and Berlin (Head of a foreign policy department and office manager for Federal President Roman Herzog). From 1999 to 2002 Haas was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Myanmar (Burma). He was then from 2002 to August 2005 Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Ivory Coast and also accredited to Liberia. As ambassador to the Ivory Coast, he granted protection to the persecuted opposition leader and former prime minister Alassane Ouattara in his residence. From August 2005 to August 2007, Haas served as ambassador to Lebanon . He was then ambassador to Ghana until his retirement in mid-2010.
