List of the German ambassadors in Ghana

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Federal Republic of Germany established a diplomatic mission in Ghana before it gained official independence. This was opened on May 28, 1956 as a consulate in Accra . On June 26, 1957, three months after the former British crown colony, the Gold Coast, gained independence, the consulate was upgraded to an embassy. It is still located in the capital Accra to this day.
The GDR only established official diplomatic relations with Ghana on December 13, 1972. One of the decisive factors for this was the Hallstein Doctrine of the Federal Republic of Germany. But the GDR had already had a trade agency since 1959, and later an economic and trade mission in Accra. From 1973 a GDR ambassador to Ghana was officially accredited.
