Horst Hahnel

Horst Hähnel (born May 21, 1932 in Neustadt an der Orla ) is a former German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador to Ghana , Liberia and Togo .

Life

Hähnel studied at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam-Babelsberg with a degree in political science. In 1956 he joined the diplomatic service of the GDR. From 1960 to 1963 he was Vice Consul at the Consulate General in Cairo . From 1967 to 1971 he served as a consul and was temporarily acting head of the consulate general in Iraq . 1974/1975 he worked in the regional department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). From 1976 to 1978 he was Deputy Head of the Embassy in Nigeria . From 1978 to 1981 he worked as the GDR's ambassador in Ghana and was second-accredited in Liberia and from 1979 also in Togo. In 1982 he took over the management of the Labor Department at the MfAA.

Hahnel was a member of the SED .
