Herbert Denzler

Herbert Denzler (born January 7, 1926 in Werben ) is a former German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador in the republics of Sudan , Ghana , Liberia and Somalia .

Life

Denzler, the son of a worker, received training as a railway assistant after attending primary school at the Deutsche Reichsbahn and then worked in the profession. From January 1944 he did military service as a sailor in submarine units of the Navy .

After the Second World War in 1945 he worked in the administration of the Deutsche Reichsbahn . In 1949 he became a member of the SED and worked as mayor in local politics. From 1958 to 1965 he was first deputy chairman of the Hettstedt district council and from 1965 to 1972 chairman of the Naumburg district council . From 1959 to 1963 he studied at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam-Babelsberg with a degree in political science.

From 1972 he worked in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). From September 22, 1973 to October 1977 he was the GDR's ambassador to the Republic of Sudan (successor to Kurt Böttger ), then a member of the MfAA. From February 11, 1981 to June 1984 he was ambassador to Ghana (successor to Horst Hähnel ) and from July 31, 1981 to 1984 second accredited in Liberia and from December 10, 1981 to 1984 in Togo. From December 19, 1984 to 1987, he served as the GDR's ambassador to Somalia (successor to Lothar Lappe ).
