Hermann Saam

Hermann Saam (born March 7, 1910 in Neckarsulm ; † December 22, 2005 in Bad Wildbad ) was a German diplomat and politician ( FDP / DVP ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school, Saam completed training in the state and municipal administration of the State of Württemberg . He then entered the diplomatic service and worked from 1934 to 1942 as consulate secretary at the German embassies in Lisbon , Rio de Janeiro and Moscow . In addition, since 1939 he made special courier trips to Japan , North , Central and South America . From 1942 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier and was deployed on the Eastern Front and in the Balkans. He was most recently taken prisoner by the United States, from which he was released in August 1945.

Saam was appointed head of the district economic office in Freudenstadt by the French military government in December 1945 , which he supervised until 1948. In October 1955 he switched again to the diplomatic service. Until 1958 he worked as consul or permanent chargé d'affaires of the Federal Republic of Germany in Accra ( Ghana ) and since 1959 worked as a consultant in the trade policy department of the Foreign Office . In 1960 he returned to Germany for health reasons.

Political party

Saam had joined the NSDAP after 1933 . After the end of the war, he joined the DVP , which later became the Baden-Württemberg regional association of the FDP . As the successor to Wolfgang Haußmann , he was state chairman of the FDP / DVP in Baden-Württemberg from 1964 to 1967 . From 1966 to 1968 he was also a member of the Federal Liberal Board.

MP

Saam was a member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament from 1952 to 1955 and from 1960 to 1964 . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1965 to 1969. He was drawn into parliament via the state list of Baden-Württemberg.

Public offices

Saam was mayor of the city of Freudenstadt from 1948 to 1955 and during this time played a major role in the reconstruction of the destroyed city center. From 1960 to 1974 he was mayor of the Wildbad community .
