Erwin Reichert

Erwin Reichert (born June 8, 1948 in Neuburgweier ; † December 12, 2013 in Freudenstadt ) was a German local politician ( SPD ). From 1992 to 2008 he was Lord Mayor of Freudenstadt.

Life and work

Erwin Reichert was born on June 8, 1948 in Neuburgweier (now the city of Rheinstetten). From 1965 to 1971 he completed an apprenticeship for the higher non-technical administrative service at the city of Karlsruhe . He completed his training with a degree in administrative management . In 1968/69 he was called up for military service. After completing his training, he worked from 1972 to 1978 as a construction law clerk, particularly in the area of ​​environmental protection, for the city of Karlsruhe. From 1978 to 1984 he was administrative manager and deputy mayor in Durlach . Afterwards he was office manager of the department head for sports, swimming pools and housing of the city of Karlsruhe until 1992. There he was responsible for foreigners, youth and senior citizens, among other things. In his role, Reichert was involved in the renovation of the wildlife park stadium and the expansion of the Europahalle Karlsruhe. From 1992 to 2008 he was Lord Mayor of Freudenstadt in the Black Forest . He died on December 12, 2013 after a serious illness. Reichert was married and had two children.

Term of office

After his predecessor resigned from office, Erwin Reichert was elected Lord Mayor of Freudenstadt on May 10, 1992. He took office on July 2, 1992. He was thus the first Lord Mayor of Baden in a major district town in Württemberg. During his term of office, Freudenstadt changed from a health resort to a tourist town. In 2000 Reichert was re-elected. His greatest political successes include the redesign of the Lower Market Square, the establishment of the Black Forest Music Festival, and the expansion of local public transport in the direction of Karlsruhe, Stuttgart and Offenburg ("Freudenstädter Stern"). By designating important building areas, Reichert drove forward the urban development of Freudenstadt. He made further merits with the establishment of the Subiaco cinema, the opening of a sculpture path and the summer theater. The deepening of the city ​​partnerships , especially with the French city of Courbevoie , was an important concern for Reichert. After 16 years as Lord Mayor, Reichert announced in September 2007 that he would forego another term of office. He retired on July 1, 2008. His successor is Julian Osswald .

Others

Reichert continued to volunteer until his death. He was a founding member of the Freudenstadt City Seniors Council and chairman of the local history and museum association. Erwin Reichert was a member of the SPD for almost 40 years. He was also a member of the Freudenstadt district council, including as deputy district administrator, and the Northern Black Forest regional association. Since 2009 he has been chairman of the supervisory board of the Baden-Baden winegrowers' cooperative . He had his own vineyard in Neuweier . In addition, he was a member of numerous committees during his tenure, for example the tourism committee of the German Association of Cities . He headed the state media center as chairman of the board of directors. On September 29, 2015, the City Council of Freudenstadt paid tribute to his work by naming the fountains on the market square after him (Erwin-Reichert-Fontänen).
