Georg Gallus (born July 6, 1927 in Hattenhofen ) is a German politician . He was a member of the FDP until April 2012 . From 1976 to 1993 he was Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forestry .

Life and work

After attending primary school , Gallus, who is a Protestant , took part in World War II as a soldier from 1944 . After his release from captivity , he began an agricultural apprenticeship in 1945 and then attended the agricultural school in Göppingen . He then completed an apprenticeship as an agricultural engineer at the engineering school for agriculture in Nürtingen . From 1968 to 1976 he was deputy chairman of the state farmers' association in Baden-Württemberg .

Georg Gallus is widowed and has five children.

Georg Gallus joined the FDP in 1952. For many years he was a member of the FDP state executive in Baden-Württemberg and the FDP federal executive . From 1974 to 1985 and 1988 to 1990 he was deputy state chairman of the FDP Baden-Württemberg . After the resignation of Friedrich-Wilhelm Kiel , he was provisional state chairman of the Swabian Liberals from July 1990 to January 1991. In April 2012, Gallus resigned from the FDP after it had included full adoption rights for life partners as a requirement in its new basic program. In the election campaign for the 2017 federal election , Gallus campaigned for the Alternative for Germany (AfD).

MP

From 1956 to 1972 Gallus was a local councilor in Hattenhofen . From 1959 to 1979 Gallus was also a member of the district council in the Göppingen district . On September 10, 1970, Gallus stood up for the resigned MP Ralf Dahrendorf in the Bundestag . He was then a member of the German Bundestag until 1994 . Georg Gallus has always entered the Bundestag via the Baden-Württemberg state list.

Public offices

On December 16, 1976, Gallus was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forests in the federal government led by Chancellor Helmut Schmidt . After the break of the social-liberal coalition , he left office on September 17, 1982.

After Helmut Kohl was elected Federal Chancellor, Gallus was reappointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Forests on October 4, 1982. Gallus then left the government on January 21, 1993 at the same time as the previous Federal Minister Ignaz Kiechle .
