Quasi-synonym
Quasi- synonyms are terms that are treated as synonyms within a classification system, although, strictly following the meaning of the word, they do not denote exactly the same term . This is done in order not to unnecessarily complicate ordering systems.
The selection and definition of quasi-synonyms should be balanced against the core competencies of a collection of documents.
Example: “ Keyboard ” as a quasi-synonym for “ Keyboard ” is quite justified and desirable in a system for organizing a collection of documents on information technology.
The same situation in a system of organizing documents on musical instruments would cause confusion, especially since “keyboard” refers to part of a keyboard instrument (= manual ) and “keyboard” refers to an entire electronic keyboard instrument.
