Andreas Kindl

Andreas Kindl is a German diplomat . He has been the German Ambassador to Lebanon since July 2020 . Before that, he was the Federal Foreign Office's representative for strategic communication.

Life

Kindl completed a degree after attending school. Later he began the preparatory service for the higher foreign service and after its graduation worked in various posts in the headquarters of the Foreign Office and in missions abroad .

Between 1999 and 2002 Kindl acted as Legation Councilor First Class together with the lecturing Legation Councilor Ralf Andreas Breth as the representative of the Foreign Office for the December 2, 1999 committee to investigate the CDU donation affair . After being a consultant for political affairs at the embassy in Israel in 2005, he became a consultant in the Middle East Department in the Foreign Office in 2006, and in this role he wrote a statement by the federal government against the call by the Israeli politician Baruch Marzel for Federal Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on the "targeted killing" of the writer Uri Avnery . In 2000 he succeeded Clemens von Goetze as Permanent Representative of the Head of the Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels and in this capacity was also a representative in the Political and Security Committee of the EU in the rank of Counselor .

Between 2012 and 2015 he was a lecturer in the first class of the Legation Council and head of the European Correspondence Unit (EU-KOR) in the Political Department of the Federal Foreign Office and also dealt with foreign and security policy issues of the EU in relation to crisis regions at events Mali , Libya , Syria or Russia .

In June 2015, Kindl was appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Yemen as the successor to Walter Haßmann . He carried out the official business from Amman / Jordan , as the embassy in Sanaa was closed due to the security situation in Yemen. On June 11, 2015, he was received by the President of the Republic of Yemen , Abdrabuh Mansour Hadi , in his exile in Saudi Arabia, to present his credentials. In 2017, Kindl was replaced as ambassador to Yemen by Hansjörg Haber and became the Federal Foreign Office's representative for strategic communication.

In July 2020, Kindl went to Beirut as an ambassador and, a few days after his arrival, experienced the explosion in Beirut , in which an employee of the German embassy was also killed.
