Clemens Robert Alexander von Goetze (born March 29, 1962 in Berlin ) is a German diplomat who has been ambassador to China since 2018 .

Life

After graduating from high school, von Goetze studied law at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg , which he completed with the first state examination in law. After the subsequent legal training had finished with the second state exam, he joined in 1990 at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and his promotion to Dr. jur. with the dissertation The External Representation of Berlin (West). career

In 1990, von Goetze began the preparatory service for the senior foreign service at the Foreign Service Academy and after graduating, was initially a consultant in the office of the State Secretaries of the Foreign Office between 1991 and 1992 and from 1992 to 1994 consultant for politics, law and consular affairs at the embassy in the Philippines . After his return to Germany, he was an advisor in the senior civil service department between 1994 and 1997 and then from 1997 to 2002 personal advisor to Federal Foreign Minister Klaus Kinkel and his successor Joschka Fischer .

From 2002 to 2003 von Goetze then acted as envoy and permanent representative of the ambassador to Turkey and was also head of the political department there. He then worked again at the headquarters of the Foreign Office between 2003 and 2005 and was deputy head of the management team responsible for the areas of ministerial office, parliament, federal cabinet and press. Thereupon, between 2006 and 2009, he was permanent representative of the head of the permanent representation to the European Union in Brussels with the rank of ambassador and at the same time permanent representative in the Political and Security Committee of the EU.

After his return to Germany, von Goetze became Head of Foreign, Security, European and Development Policy Department 2 - Abroad - of the Federal President's Office in 2009 and remained in this position until 2012, before becoming Head of the Africa, Asia Department from 2012 to 2015 , Latin America, Near and Middle East of the Foreign Office was.

In July 2015, von Goetze became the successor of Andreas Michaelis as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Israel . The President of the State of Israel , Reuven Rivlin , received von Goetze on August 6, 2015 to present his credentials. On September 6, 2018, Goetze became ambassador to China . The accreditation took place on September 10, 2018.
