Arndt Burchard Ludwig Freiherr Freytag von Loringhoven (born November 12, 1956 in Munich ) is a German diplomat and designated German ambassador to Poland .

Life

Freytag von Loringhoven's family is one of the Baltic lines of the originally Westphalian noble family Frydag . His father Bernd Freytag von Loringhoven from the von Freytag von Loringhoven family was an officer and from July 1944 to April 30, 1945 he was an adjutant at the daily military briefings in the Führerbunker in Berlin .

Arndt Freytag von Loringhoven studied from 1974 in Bonn and Berlin , the subjects History , philosophy and chemistry . In 1986 Freytag von Loringhoven began his career in the higher foreign service of the Federal Foreign Office . From 1989 he was a consultant at the German Embassy in Paris and from 1992 at the German Embassy in Moscow . From 1994 he worked in the planning staff of the Foreign Office and from 1998 in the office of the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs. From December 1, 2016 to December 2, 2019, he held the newly created office of Assistant Secretary General of NATO for Intelligence and Security in Brussels and headed the Intelligence Department in the International Military Staff . He was succeeded by David Cattler from the United States .

From July 1, 2020, Freytag von Loringhoven was to serve as the German ambassador in Warsaw , the Polish government has so far (as of August 2020) refused to give him diplomatic aggrément without substantive justification . According to the conservative Polish daily Rzeczpospolita, there are reservations about his father's role in World War II .
