The Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the European Union is the diplomatic representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the European Union , based in Brussels .
Duties of the permanent representation
The Permanent Mission has the function of an embassy , which it does not exercise towards a sovereign state , but towards an international organization - in this case the European Union. It has the task of conveying information between the Federal Republic and the European Union and of participating in European politics in the interests of Germany. To this end, the representation maintains close relationships with the EU Commission , the European Parliament and the EU Council of Ministers .
Departments of the permanent representation
The Permanent Representation has three departments and several units to handle its tasks:
- Politics department with the subdivisions: Foreign and Security Policy; Institutions of the EU; Military policy and armaments affairs; Coordination of counter-terrorism and prevention activities; Legal policy; Domestic politics; Development cooperation; Press and political public relations; Staff in the EU institutions; Family, senior, women and youth policy
- Economics department with the subdivisions: Foreign Economic Policy and Trade Policy; Competitiveness; Energy; Structural and competition policy; Telecommunications and Postal Policy, Information Society; Business law; Environment unit
- Finance department with the sub-departments: EU Economic and Monetary Policy; EU budget, own revenue, fight against fraud, financial instruments, statute; EU tax issues; EU customs issues; Financial aspects of other EU policies; Financial Services Unit

Permanent representatives
The permanent representatives with the rank of ambassador are diplomats from the Federal Foreign Office:

You represent the Federal Republic in the Committee of Permanent Representatives II.
The deputy permanent representatives are federal officials from the second coordinating ministry, usually the Federal Ministry of Economics . Up to now it was Jochen Grünhage , Peter Witt and Guido Peruzzo , currently in the post of Peter Rösgen .
You represent the Federal Republic in the Committee of Permanent Representatives I.
