The representation of the state of Baden-Württemberg to the European Union is part of the Ministry of Justice and for Europe Baden-Württemberg. It is based in Brussels' European Quarter, at 60–62 rue Belliard. The state representation is the link between the state of Baden-Württemberg and the European Union .

The representation of the state of Baden-Württemberg to the European Union is part of the Ministry of Justice and for Europe . It was opened on January 1, 1987 as the "Baden-Württemberg Office". Its first head was Wilfried Baur, who set up the office in Brussels . He was followed by Wolfgang Dietz . In 2003 the agency moved from a smaller building on Square Vergote to its current location on Rue Belliard in Brussels' European Quarter. The third head of the agency, Richard Arnold , was succeeded on May 1, 2010 by Nicola Schelling as head. In May 2011 Johannes Jung was appointed director. From 2011 to 2016 the representation was run as a department of the State Ministry. In 2016 responsibility passed to the Ministry of Justice and for Europe. Since April 1, 2018, Bodo Lehmann has been Head of the Baden-Württemberg State Representation to the European Union.

All Baden-Württemberg ministries delegate their departmental representatives to the state representation. There are the following line ministries / work areas within the state representation:

The state representation represents the state and represents the interests of Baden-Württemberg in the European Union . To this end, the state representation maintains close contacts with the European Commission , the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers. Good relationships with the other German state representations, the Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the European Union and the Brussels-based municipal offices, interest groups and associations as well as non-governmental organizations are of great importance for day-to-day work.

The tasks of the state representation include:

  • First-hand information from the state government about current events in the European Union
  • Information from the European institutions and stakeholders in Brussels on the state government's European policy positions
  • Political education on European political issues for visitor groups from Baden-Württemberg
  • Representation of the traditions and cultural assets of Baden-Württemberg
  • Advice and support for citizens of Baden-Württemberg, associations and companies in contacting EU bodies

Around 300 events of various sizes and objectives take place in the state representation every year. Registered groups of visitors will be given a guided tour during which the work of the state representative will be presented.

Premises

You can experience a piece of Baden-Württemberg in the state representation in Brussels . In addition to the large Europa Hall, there are three seminar rooms named Karlsruhe , Stuttgart and Mannheim . The typical Baden-Württemberg Black Forest parlor also has its place in the state representation.

In November 2018, construction work began to expand the state representation of Baden-Württemberg to include a neighboring building. This was acquired by the state in 2012 and is intended to increase the possibilities in the event area in particular by 2020. The Goethe Institute and the representative offices of several Baden-Württemberg companies will be located on the upper floors of the building.
