Commitment and history

U 1007 sailed from January 18 to May 31, 1944 as a training boat with the 31st U-Flotilla (Hamburg) and was assigned to the 1st U-Flotilla ( Brest ) as a front boat on June 1, 1944 .

The commander Kapitänleutnant Hans Hornkohl and the crew of U 1007 came from the U 566 , which was self- sunk off Vigo ( Spain ) after severe damage on October 24, 1943 , whereby all crew members were rescued by a Spanish fishing cutter and returned to Brest (Finistère) on October 31, 1943 , were later sent to Hamburg.

Feindfahrt - U 1007 left Kiel on May 31, 1944 for the first venture and arrived in Flekkefjord a day later, on June 1, 1944. U 1007 left Flekkefjord on June 10, 1944 and entered Marviken on June 27.

On July 7, 1944, U 1007 began its return journey to Kiel, where the submarine arrived on July 9. Further missions up to May 2, 1945 are largely unknown. In March 1945 U 1007 brought thirty-five Hitler Youths from the Hela peninsula to Rönne (Kiel).

On May 2, 1945, U 1007 was on the Trave and was badly damaged by several missile hits by Hawker Typhoons of the British 2nd Tactical Air Force Squadron 245, killing two crew members. There were cracks and several large holes in the pressure hull. The submarine was then beached. The 47 survivors left the submarine and went ashore.

In June 1946, the wreck lying on the banks of the Trave was demolished.
