The 24th Submarine Flotilla , or 24th U-Flotilla for short , was a military association of the German Navy during World War II .

The flotilla was formed in October 1939 as the “U-Boat Training Flotilla ”, which was converted into “1st submarine” in April of the following year. U-boat training flotilla ”was renamed. Until then, Gdansk served as the base . The flotilla was primarily used for the training of future commanders. Between ten and twelve young officers took part in a four-week commander (torpedo) shooting course, which was the final training for them before they took over a submarine. The target ship was usually the Goya . The flotilla later also took on responsibility for underwater training.

In July 1940 the flotilla was renamed the 24th U-Flotilla. Target and Beischiff was in May 1940, the Angel Castle . Memel was the flotilla base until October 1944 , which was only relocated to Trondheim or the Lofjord from June to September 1941, the initial phase of the German-Soviet War , in order to be able to pursue training activities there unmolested by the fighting on the Eastern Front. Flotilla boss Merten arranged for the coat of arms “swastika under towers and gate of the city of Memel” to be created. From October 1944 to February 1945 Gotenhafen was the base of the flotilla. The last base was Eckernförde . The flotilla was disbanded in March 1945.
